The monthly AIR OPTIX plus HydraGlyde Multifocal lenses from Alcon were developed for the correction of presbyopia. They are made of silicone hydrogel, which is characterised by high oxygen permeability. This enables them to be readily worn all day. In addition, the AIR OPTIX plus HydraGlyde Multifocal lenses have SmartShield Technology, which protects the contact lenses from irritating deposits. The HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix provides an integrated moisturiser, which improves wearing comfort for a long time.
With presbyopia, visual acuity with nearby objects gradually decreases beginning in a person's mid-40s. This makes it increasingly difficult for those affected to adjust their vision between far-way and close-up objects. With their unique Precision Profile design, AIR OPTIX plus HydraGlyde Multifocal lenses enable consistent vision at all distances; near vision is optimised without impairing distant vision. The transitions between near and far vision, as well as the areas in between, are smooth. This way, sharp vision can be guaranteed at all distances.
Compared to the AIR OPTIX AQUA Multifocal lens, the AIR OPTIX plus HydraGlyde Multifocal lens offers an innovative technology for a particularly high level of lasting comfort. The HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix ensures consistent moisture retention on the contact lens. HydraGlyde is a surface-active polymer, with one side that is attracted to the silicone of the contact lenses and adheres to the surface. The other side attracts water, effectively binding moisture to the contact lenses. This prevents dryness and irritation. The eyes stay fresh and alert even after long wearing times.
The SmartShield Technology is an ultra-thin protective shield that encases the monthly lenses and prevents harmful deposits of proteins or fats which can arise from the natural tear film. Thanks to this protective layer, AIR OPTIX plus HydraGlyde Multifocal lenses are also particularly resistant to deposits from cosmetics and make-up.
