The effect of OCULEA® on the tear film:
OCULEA® products have different properties and act on the different layers of the tear film. Pure hyaluronic acid eye drops act on the aqueous layer, while drops and sprays with a lipid content (e.g. plant oils) act on the lipid layer. Combination products with hyaluronic acid and a fat component therefore have an effect on both the aqueous and lipid layers and are particularly long-lasting
Our tear film consists of three layers. If one of these layers is disturbed, dry eyes occur.
Mucin layer - The mucin-containing phase ensures that the tear film adheres to the corneal surface.
Aqueous layer - In addition to water, the largest layer contains essential components for nourishing the cornea and defending against germs
Lipid layer - The lipid layer protects against evaporation and stabilises the tear film.
